Andrew Moss - Aviva - Norwich Union
Aviva’s new chief executive Andrew Moss is understood to be considering axing the Norwich Union brand altogether in favour of simply using the Aviva branding in the UK.
Moss believes the move could boost the company’s global recognition. Aviva sells life assurance, investment and general insurance in the UK under the Norwich Union label but trades under Aviva in 25 markets around the world.
Policies sold in the UK are now jointly branded under both names and sources suggest Aviva will use this to test and compare brand recognition amongst consumers before making a final decision.
Moss is said to be looking at ways to compete with larger international companies and believes brand alignment could help.
Aviva director of external affairs Hayley Stimpson says: “No decision has been made on the rebranding.”
The fact is that Andrew Moss obviously is not aware of the value of brand recognition, just ask some one in the street do you know what Norwich Union does and they will probably say Insurance or even car insurance ask the same person who or what Aviva is and they will shrug their sholders.
All thoes years of brand building and marketing money spent and it could be wiped out by some one who does not seem to know his arse from his elbow in the marketing world! Another problem is the advertising executives and marketing people in Norwich Union (Aviva) if they have the balls they need to point this out, time will tell. but the fact is Vaiva (norwich union) looks like they are going to have to spend millions of shareholder pounds for no reason.
